NAM Ambassadorial meeting on Universal Periodic Review Process was held in Geneva
Final Document of the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Baku, Azerbaijan on 25-26 October 2019, the Heads of State and Government has underlined the importance of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) and urged all the NAM members to coordinate their efforts to support the NAM Members States under review. Proceeding from this understanding on 17 January 2020, Geneva Chapter of the Azerbaijani Chairmanship to NAM convened the NAM Ambassadorial meeting devoted to the upcoming 35th session of the Working Group of the HRC on the Universal Periodic Review.
During the meeting the Permanent Missions of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the State of Kuwait briefed the NAM Member States on their national UPR Reports to be considered at the 35th session of the UPR Working Group scheduled to take place from 20 to 31 January 2020 in Geneva.
