Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) UNESCO – Paris Chapter was held on 14 December 2022
The meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)/UNESCO – Paris Chapter was held on 14 December 2022 under the chairmanship of Elman Abdullayev, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO. The Permanent Delegates of the NAM Member States to UNESCO, Chair of the UNESCO Executive Board, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Serbia H.E. Ms. Tamara Rastovac-Siamashvili, Chair of the SIDS Group at UNESCO, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Cook Islands to UNESCO H.E. Ms. Nathalie Rossette-cazel attended the meeting.
Ambassador Abdullayev briefed the meeting participants about the activities of the Azerbaijani Chairmanship of the NAM, including the annual coordination meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, International Charity Bazaar, activities of the NAM Youth Organization, NAM Education Ministers meeting and etc.
Chair of the UNESCO Executive Board spoke about the activities of the Executive Board, the info sessions and informal consultations that took place during the last session of the Executive Board. She encouraged Member States to submit new items to the Agenda of the Executive Board and stressed her willingness to listen the needs of the NAM.
Chair of the SIDS Group at UNESCO presented the challenges of Small Island Developing States and provided comprehensive information on newly elaborated Operational Strategy for SIDS.
At the end of the meeting, the candidacies of the member states of the NAM were discussed and the importance of mutual support was emphasized as a sign of the solidarity and for the Movement to be well heard.
